About Stephen Hazel CFP®, AIF®, RICP®, ChFC®
Driven by a strong passion to be of service to individuals on a personal level concerning financial & tax planning, Stephen is a CFP® Professional who transitioned to the financial planning business in 2008. Drawing on his successful twenty-year banking career in which he was named President and CEO of a local credit union in 2005, Stephen’s keen abilities, progressive mindset, professional demeanor, and unwavering commitment to delivering excellent service provides his clients with reliable guidance and assistance as they navigate along their financial & life paths.
After first working as an advisor for other companies, he saw an opportunity to found his own firm, Hazel Financial, in 2014 to focus on financial life planning for individuals and business owners. To further align his work in helping his clients achieve their life goals and connect their life with their money, in 2018 Hazel Financial began doing business as Magnificent Life Financial Planning.
As a fiduciary, Stephen acts in the interests of clients with care, skill, prudence, and diligence. Trust and integrity are the foundation of his financial services practice. He assists his clients in realizing their goals and objectives, ultimately recognizing their own success through a collaborative coaching process, developing comprehensive solutions that work for their particular circumstances. Through this process, he ensures that he provides his clients with objective recommendations that are based on their best interests and specific goals.
Education is of huge importance to Stephen—both his own and teaching others. His father was an ASU professor and his mother a teacher and administrator in elementary education. Stephen studied physics and engineering at Occidental College in Eagle Rock, Calif., ultimately graduating from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s in Asian languages. (He speaks Japanese conversationally.) He acquired his MBA from Grand Canyon University with a minor in finance. Through continuing education and participation in industry forums, Stephen stays abreast of current industry products, standards, and practices to maintain his position as an invaluable resource to his clients. As a devoted educator, he teaches financial courses at Rio Salado College and has been actively involved in his community, serving on various charitable boards and organizations in support of education.
Stephen is a six-time Ironman finisher and 10-time finisher of the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon. A long-time Arizona resident, he is the proud father of two sons and a daughter and enjoys reading, hiking, and outdoor activities.
