About Robert Colon CFP®, EA, CRPC®, ADPA®
I started my career working in investment management, but quickly became fascinated with the many tax implications that each investment decision could have. As a result of working with a CPA and completing my Enrolled Agent requirements, the link between not just tax and investments, but all aspects of the financial planning process became increasingly clear. Personal financial advice is readily accessible for anyone with a few hundred thousand dollars in investable assets, however, I was troubled when I looked at my peers and friends who were making significant financial decisions in their 20’s and 30’s, without having the proper guidance or experience.
Now as a Certified Financial Planner®, I help the HENRY’s (High Earning Not Rich Yet) reach their financial goals with a clear focus and higher efficacy.I made it an early career ambition to attain the designation of Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®). This designation, which is granted by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. covers subject areas of risk management, employee benefits planning, investment planning, income tax planning, retirement planning, and estate planning. I went on to earn the ADPA® designation which includes a course of study encompassing wealth transfers, federal taxation, retirement planning, and planning for financial and medical end-of-life needs for domestic partners. Additionally, for both certifications, I had to pass an end-of-course examination to test my ability to synthesize complex concepts and apply theoretical concepts to real-life situations.
From my work in the tax field, I became an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). An Enrolled Agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax return policies. Enrolled agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can represent clients before.
Prior to founding Legacy Care Wealth, LLC, I held the position of Vice-President of Wealth Management for an independent wealth management practice managing over $70 million of client assets. My responsibilities included reviewing and monitoring client accounts to identify gaps or deficiencies in their long-term financial plan.
I live in Jersey City, NJ with my wife and two dogs and am very involved the growing downtown community.
