About Rachael Burns, CFP®, CDFA, CPWA

I’m Rachael Burns, and I help millennial women simplify their financial lives.

Since 2007, I’ve been advising affluent families for some of the top national wealth management firms. I’ve heard hundreds of stories of how clients acquired their wealth, and I’ve noticed a common theme. Surprisingly few had inherited from wealthy parents or had high powered careers. Instead, most had slowly built their wealth through good spending and saving habits. And the earlier in life they developed those habits, the faster their wealth grew.

I had a realization: if I wanted to make the greatest impact on my clients, I needed to reach them earlier in their financial journey. If I could teach clients good money skills in their 20’s and 30’s, I could set them on a path to achieve success. But there was a problem. Account minimums. Younger people don’t usually have a ton of savings yet. Their greatest asset is their potential, not their portfolio. But my employers said I couldn’t work with these clients until they saved enough to meet our minimums.

This made no sense to me. Why offer financial advice only to those who have already achieved financial success? I felt like my whole generation was being excluded. Without access to expert financial advice, my fellow millennials were destined to fall behind.

Looking around at friends and colleagues in my peer group, I was inspired by what I saw: confident, capable young women living their best lives. However, scratching below the surface, I was surprised by how insecure many of them felt with their finances. They felt clueless when it came to basic financial concepts. They felt guilt around their debt or lack of savings. They felt shame over past financial mistakes. They were in some seriously dysfunctional relationships with their money. These women were in desperate need of financial advice, but they didn’t ‘qualify’ for professional help.

That’s when I decided to take the plunge, leaving the corporate world to start my own company from scratch. I founded True Worth Financial Planning to help Millennial women simplify their financial lives and get them on track to achieve their goals and dreams. To help them build a healthy relationship with their money that makes them feel confident and empowered. And to give them access to the expert financial advice they need and deserve.
