About Derek Tharp, CFP®, MFCS
I’m the founder of Conscious Capital, a fee-only boutique wealth management firm that specializes in socially conscious investing. In addition to helping our clients manage their investments in a manner that is consistent with their values, we also provide comprehensive financial planning to help our clients grow and protect their hard-earned wealth.
I hold a BS in Finance and an MFCS in Family Financial Planning from Iowa State University. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning through Kansas State University. I have been quoted in several financial publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Investment Advisor Magazine, Investor’s Business Daily, and InvestmentNews. I am also a co-author of a chapter in the textbook Financial Therapy: Theory, Research, and Practice.
Prior to founding Conscious Capital, I worked with a team of advisors managing over $700 million in assets for high net worth individuals and non-profit organizations. I was also a 2015-2016 recipient of a fellowship in applied ethics with the Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics in Financial Services at The American College of Financial Services. In my free time, I enjoy reading, hiking, and spending time with my wife and our black lab.
