About Mike Hunsberger, CFP®, ChFC

I’m Mike Hunsberger, the founder and owner of Next Mission Financial Planning. I loved my 25-years in the Air Force but wanted to do something different when I retired. I’ve always enjoyed financial planning for myself as well as for friends and family. I help clients build the life they want by balancing living today with building wealth for the future. Gradually increasing savings rates and staying invested over the long term is the best way I found to do that.

I’m a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Chartered Financial Consultant.

I primarily work with senior military, veterans, and military retirees preparing for their ultimate retirement. I also specialize in college funding plans for families who want to send their children to college without jeopardizing the future.

As someone who has transitioned from the military to civilian life, I have personally worked through many military financial questions such as Thrift Savings plan questions, Military Retirement benefits, VA disability benefits, taxes on military retirement and survivor benefit plan. This experience inspired me to help people just like you navigate your way to a successful military retirement and financial life.

My specialty in taxes enables me to uncover military-specific savings that often go overlooked. As a fee-only, independent advisor, I pride myself on simplifying your life, not adding to it.

Gordon Achtermann, CFP®, CSRIC

About Gordon Achtermann, CFP®, CSRIC, MBA

I get it. Finding a Financial Planner that is a good match for you is not easy. The alphabet soup of credentials and terms can be confusing. I will take as long as you like to talk through all your questions because I know that an educated client is my best client. I have been fortunate to have served families and individuals from Alaska and California to Texas and Massachusetts and all over Virginia, Maryland and DC while based in Fairfax, VA. Why?
Because I have everything needed to be your guide in a changing landscape.

Like most firms, at Your Best Path, we provide comprehensive financial planning, retirement planning, and investment management to help our clients.
There are a few things about my practice that differ from the great majority of planners.

– The focus is exclusively on families in their peak earning years.

– I am a leader in Sustainable, Responsible, and Impact Investing (SRI), having received the CSRIC designation – the first-ever certification for study in investing while considering Environmental, Social, and Governance factors. Your portfolio will reflect your specific values, not just a cookie-cutter index from fund managers that don’t even vote their shares.

– I also have expertise developed over the years working with clients from many branches of the Federal Government, so I understand the intricacies of their various benefit programs.

– As of 1/1/2022, our average managed asset household had $4 million under our management. Why? I do not push asset management unless your situation is too complex for you to manage yourself or you prefer to delegate that activity.

– I serve individuals and families from all walks of life. Therefore, I have no minimums for planning or asset management.

Andrew Katz-Moses, CFP®

About Andrew Katz-Moses, CFP®

Hi, I’m Andrew. I help educators and government employees make sense of their finances so they can focus on living life.

When I was a teacher and DCPS staff member, I signed up with one of the salespeople pushing expensive 403(b) plans. When I learned I was set up to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in unnecessary fees over the course of my career, my outrage fueled a passion to help other educators.

Now I’m a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional working with educators and city government employees in the DC area.

Jose Armenta, CFP®, ChFC®

About Jose Armenta, CFP®, ChFC®, EA

I believe the focus of financial planning should be on your “why.” What are your goals and values? Once we’ve identified your path, I will guide you in designing a comprehensive financial life plan that’ll allow you to walk that path. Only after we have found the “why” can we create the “how” –and only after understanding your unique desires do we start discussing numbers.

When I first entered the financial services industry, I was discouraged by the type of financial services I saw offered to Federal employees, from inappropriate insurance products to patchwork advice focused on trying to “beat the market.” Equipped with a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from Columbia College, a master’s degree in financial and tax planning from San Diego State University, and a lifelong awareness of the link between money management and life satisfaction, I became determined to provide real comprehensive financial planning for Federal employees that focused on helping them accomplish their goals.

The decision to specialize in helping Federal employees stems from my experience serving in the Marine Corps as a bomb dog handler. In 2013, I was injured by an IED in Afghanistan and medically retired, along with my bomb dog Zenit. Despite this unexpected curve in my path, I still had the same “why”: I wanted to be involved in a mission greater than myself and help those I cared about. I knew this meant continuing to work with those who serve our great nation.

My “how” turned out to be launching Create Your Path, a fee-only, independent financial planning firm specializing in advising Federal employees. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, Chartered Financial Consultant, an Enrolled Agent, and a former Federal employee who has been in your shoes, I am ready to guide you towards the life you envision.
