Jason Newcomer, CFP®, EA

About Jason Newcomer, CFP®, EA, AIF

After more than a decade of working at my previous firm, where at some point I did just about every job under the sun, I launched Dogwood alongside my good friend and business partner Eric. I am a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, an Accredited Investment Fiduciary, and an Enrolled Agent. I also have served as a board member for the Greater Kansas City Financial Planning Association.

What I enjoy most about being a financial planner is getting to know the families who I work with and helping them see and think about money as a tool that can be used to build a truly fulfilling life.

I am a lifelong Kansas City resident, save the four years I spent in Springfield at Missouri State University. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Lauren. Together we have a beautiful daughter, Remi Job. If I wasn’t a financial planner, I’d probably be trying to find a way to make a living as a hunter, fisherman, and beer brewer.

Nick Covyeau, CFP®

About Nick Covyeau, CFP®

I’m a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ based in Costa Mesa, California. I love financial planning and truly geek out over it. I decided to create Swell Financial because I believe a financial planning firm ultimately succeeds by putting clients first. I also firmly believe in the concept of ABUNDANCE. This notion that money is simply a tool that we are called to steward to enrich our lives and the lives of those around us. Abundance calls us to disregard the mindset of greed and scarcity and instead believe in the concept of always having enough, being generous and a blessing others. It’s my mission to help people improve their finances and turn their dreams into reality.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege and opportunity to work with just about every shape and size of financial firm out there: from big, corporate giants to small, private independent wealth firms. Some charged clients commission, some were fee-only, and some were a combination of the two. But they all had one thing in common: not enough emphasis on the clients achieving their goals.

In 2021, I launched Swell Financial to help you reimagine your relationship with money, so it’s easier to achieve your goals and feel confident about your future.

Life is complicated enough; your money doesn’t have to be.

Evon Mendrin, CFP®, CSLP®

About Evon Mendrin, CFP®, CSLP®

Hi, I’m Evon. I’m the founder and lead advisor at Optometry Wealth Advisors. I’m dedicated to serving optometrists, especially those in private practice.

I help optometrists gain clarity on their finances, track progress, and make the best financial decisions for their lives. You’re on your way to financial freedom, and I’m your guide to get you there!

If you own a private practice – or dream of cold-starting or buying into a private practice – we may be a great fit to work together.

After years of extra schooling, you have a world of financial decisions to navigate. Own a practice? You also wear the hat of business owner – building and leading your team, improving your patient experience, and managing the finances. All on top of being an excellent practitioner.

With all that on your plate, I’m here to help you grow your wealth, master your money, and plan purposefully.

Together we navigate the most important decisions around your finances. We tackle cash flow and debt, tax planning, making work optional, starting a practice, insurance and risk management, estate planning, and understanding your practice finances.

My credentials and education:
• Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professional
• Certified Student Loan Professional™ (CSLP®)
• Bachelor of Arts in Finance and Marketing, Fresno Pacific University

I began my career in 2014 working for one of those large, product-focused financial companies. I saw the conflicts involved in product sales and knew there was a better way. With that in mind I joined a fantastic local, independent financial planning firm.

Yet, I saw there were still gaps for optometrists looking for great financial advice and still on their way to building wealth. Your profession and practices fascinate me. Many advisory firms focused on retirees and people who already grew their nest egg. So, after five great years, I left to launch Optometry Wealth Advisors to help ODs nationwide.

When I’m not serving ODs or researching nerdy financial planning stuff, I’m spending time with my wife and two kids, involved in my church community, and trying as hard as I can to get outdoors.

If you’d like to learn more, please set up a FREE consultation. If nothing else, check out my blog. Each week I write about issues important to ODs, along with other types of content you’ll find helpful.

Jason Stein, CFP®

About Jason Stein, CFP®

For over 8 years, Jason has been helping clients achieve their financial goals through transparent advice and client education.

Jason earned his degree in Economics and Accounting from UC Santa Barbara and began his career with The Vanguard Group in Scottsdale, AZ. Originally inspired by his grandmother’s adolescent hardships, he’s always been encouraged to help others find financial clarity.

“My grandmother, who was a huge influence on my life, was a teenage girl during the Great Depression. Because she witnessed such financial hardship, she learned at a young age the importance of financial stability, and remained relatively frugal through most of her life. She instilled these values on my father, a financial advisor himself, who began educating me at a young age through our many road trips. In fact, the earliest lesson I recall was about mutual funds, and how I could buy a fund that contains Toys-R-Us, rather than buying the toy itself. What was initially a desire to learn more about my father’s job, quickly became valuable knowledge I knew could be used to help others. In 2013, I moved away from my friends and family, not knowing anyone in Arizona, to pursue a career with Vanguard. Given the indisputable morals behind Vanguard’s reputation, I could not think of a better company to begin my career, and to further enforce how success is achieved by putting client’s priorities ahead of one’s own.”

Jason now looks forward to bringing that industry leading experience, and scaling it down to provide a more personalized relationship with each of his clients.

Brandon Amaral, CFP®, EA

About Brandon Amaral, CFP®, EA

I’ve always been passionate about personal finances and financial planning. After graduating from San Diego Staten University with a degree in Financial Planning, I spent some time working for a large Broker-Dealer and then transitioned to a boutique fee-only firm. I became a CFP® and an Enrolled Agent, and began to focus on the nuances of taxes and stock options.

As a first-generation college student, I quickly realized the importance of understanding your finances and saving as early as possible. I’ve spent the last 8 years working in the Financial Services industry and the past 5 years working directly with financial planning clients.

My goal is to provide affordable financial advice to all individuals and families. I want to help people go from confused and overwhelmed to confident and informed.

Elliott Appel, CFP®, CLU®

About Elliott Appel, CFP®, CLU®, RLP®

Having spent the first decade of my career with a large wealth management firm in Seattle, I launched Kindness Financial Planning in 2021 to work with fewer clients and focus on widows, widowers, caregivers, and families affected by major health events.

Their stories resonate with me because my dad was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer on July 18, 2016. He has had brain radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. We have navigated oncologists, surgeons, palliative care doctors, neurologists, endocrinologists, pain clinics, psychiatrists, social workers, pain clinics, nutritionists, and more.

Since then, I’ve been drawn to people going through similar situations. I enjoy our conversations, hearing what is important, and helping them navigate the uncertainty life throws at them.

Through these conversations, I have learned that when faced with loss and grief, brain fog usually takes over. What was once easy becomes challenging. Sometimes, only one person was involved in the financial decisions and the survivor needs another layer of support.

I meet people where they are, listen, and organize what needs to be done to build financial security. I help people make sense of what is urgent and what can wait. Together, we’ll do tax planning, review estate plans, build customized investment portfolios to create the income they need, and more. Then, I am with them every step of the way.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Seattle University. I hold the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation, Chartered Life Underwriter® designation, and I am a Registered Life Planner®.

Outside of work, you can find me playing tennis, running with my wife, biking, hiking, attempting to play the guitar, or cooking.
