Ryan McGuire, CFP®, CPWA®

About Ryan McGuire, CFP®, CPWA®, ChSNC®

Oak Wealth Advisors was founded to provide families with special needs members with experienced and objective financial advice and investment management services that have traditionally been available only to very wealthy families and institutions.

I first met Oak Wealth Advisors founder, Mike Walther, when Mike guest lectured about special needs financial planning in one of my classes at the University of Wisconsin. In the decade that has followed, I have taught courses at the University of Wisconsin while deepening my knowledge and experience in financial planning and wealth management. I am a CFP® practitioner. I also obtained the Certified Private Wealth Advisor® designation issued by the Investments & Wealth Institute after completing the course work at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

In addition to my personal experiences living with a sister with special needs, I have increased my technical knowledge of special needs financial planning. I earned the Chartered Special Needs Consultant®(ChSNC®) designation from the American College in 2018, and in 2020, was admitted as a member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners. I also serve on the Board of Directors of Wispact, Inc., an organization that manages pooled Special Needs Trusts for over 3,000 individuals in Wisconsin.

At Oak Wealth Advisors, in addition to advising clients, I lead the innovation efforts to ensure that new opportunities for client service are implemented seamlessly to support the delivery of the best possible client experience with the firm.

Tessa Elrod, CFP®, CDFA®

About Tessa Elrod, CFP®, CDFA®

I am Tessa Elrod, co-owner of Next Step Financial Transitions. I fell in love with financial planning from my first semester in the financial planning department at Texas Tech. What I discovered over the tenure of my experience is that my passion truly lies in the impact I am blessed to make in people’s lives. I love witnessing the immediate relief my clients experience when they understand their financial situation and peace of mind that comes with having clear direction. My mission is to bring that emotion to clients of all ages and transitions.

I hold a BS in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University and am a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner as well as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®. In 2008, I took my first step into the professional world with United Capital Private Wealth Counseling, which now comes under Goldman Sachs Personal Financial Management Umbrella. In addition to playing a key role in the development of UCPWC’s advice and planning group in Lubbock, TX I also held the Relationship Manager role in both the Bethesda, MD and Houston, TX offices.

In 2014, I joined Houston-based Strategic Financial Advisor, where I discovered and developed my passion for family-oriented financial planning and the next generation’s financial needs. As a mother of three myself, I understand how difficult financial planning can be, especially for families with children that have special needs. This is a difficult truth that I have learned from my personal experience.

My career trajectory also brought me in contact with several people (mostly women) who had difficulty dealing with the financial repercussions of divorce and unjust settlements. As a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®, I helped these people take control of their financial life when I was with SFA. Then in 2018 I started Next Step Divorce Solutions LLC, with a desire to do more during the divorce process.

Matthew Ricks, CFP®

I’m Matt – the President of Haystack Financial Planning, a Registered Investment Advisory firm in New York. As a financial planner who focuses on people with disabilities and special needs, I have found the perfect way to merge financial planning with my passion for serving others.

I am a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™️ professional and fiduciary that operates on a fee-only basis. I earned my MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business and earned a Finance degree from The Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University.

I currently live in New York City with my wife and our two sons., We enjoy exploring playgrounds, riding the bus and subway (pre-COVID at least), and searching for cool construction equipment. When not spending time with my family or running Haystack, you may find me walking one of the local golf courses, tapping a beat with my fingers (I’m a recovering drummer), searching for the perfect grilled cheese, or contemplating my next home improvement project despite living in an NYC co-op.

Neil Mahoney, CFP®

About Neil Mahoney, CFP®

My name is Neil Mahoney and I’m a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional who loves to help special needs families and people with disabilities enjoy life, make the most out of their money, and live the best life possible.

As a father of three kids, including twins with disabilities, my wife Rebecca and I have first-hand experience with many of the financial and life challenges special needs families face. I’m here to help special needs families and people with disabilities be as strong as possible financially to help reduce financial stress and increase quality of life.

My ideal clients are special needs families, people with disabilities, professionals serving the disability community, and good-hearted people who are or commit to become financial or volunteer supporters of the disability community.

I absolutely love playing table tennis (ping pong) and before the pandemic was playing 5+ days per week. I have a lifelong passion for trains and model railroading, much to the dismay of my wife, and especially enjoy “operating sessions” and getting stuck waiting at railroad crossings. RVing in our 41-foot trailer is new adventure for our family and we have enjoyed getting outside more often.

Todd Sensing, CFP®, CFA®

About Todd Sensing, CFP®, CFA®, ChSNC

Todd Sensing started FamilyVest because he wanted to draw on his more than two decades of financial and investment experience for the benefit of families. As a father of two children diagnosed with Autism, he understands how much planning goes into taking care of a family, particularly those with children with special needs. He finds it gratifying to help families achieve peace of mind in knowing that they are prepared to provide for their loved ones’ futures.

Before founding FamilyVest, Todd spent 20 years in the banking and financial industry, including with Bear Stearns; Donaldson, Lufkin, & Jenrette; and FHLBank Atlanta. Shortly before the mortgage crisis of 2007, he started Aardvark Market Neutral Fund, a long-short REIT fund, and successfully steered his clients through the economy’s turmoil.

Despite his career success, Todd believed his work could be more fulfilling if he applied his expertise to helping families of all kinds achieve financial well-being. Since founding FamilyVest, he has discovered that his greatest moments come when working with a family that believes a financial planner would be of little benefit or cost too much. As they see just how Todd can help them achieve their goals and dreams, he finds the transformation of their doubts into optimism truly gratifying.

Todd lives in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, with his wife and two sons. When he’s not at work, he’s usually spending time fishing and boating with his boys.
