Bradley Clark, MBA, CFP®

About Bradley Clark, MBA, CFP®

I was hanging on every word…

It was a beautiful spring day in Palo Alto in 1996.

My Modern Portfolio Theory professor – Nobel laureate Bill Sharpe – was explaining the “illusion of stock picking skill” and the idea that stock pickers as a group lose big to the stock market as a whole.

I remember closing my eyes and taking it all in. Was it possible that a several hundred billion dollar industry was just harming investors? That the whole thing was built on an illusion? Even a lie?

I was just entranced.

(It turns out I caught a brief glimpse of my true calling that day, but it would be another 17 years before I actually took concrete steps to become a financial advisor.)

But then the class ended, and I went back to the business of graduating from Stanford Business School. I headed back to consulting for a couple years, and then co-founded a dot com.

But in 2003, I ended up in awkward position. An awkward position that ultimately lead me to my true calling.

I had accepted the position of Publisher & Chief Marketing Officer at The Motley Fool, the personal finance website. I loved the people, and rocked the job.

But something was wrong.

You see, one of my responsibilities was to convince millions of investors that we had superior stock picking skills.

There was just one problem with this – I didn’t believe it.
Beliefs are a funny thing. I came to believe back in 1996 that stock picking skills are an illusion, and that belief had just stuck.

And I couldn’t unstick it.

I eventually left The Fool with mixed feelings. I was proud of our commercial success, and my role in that. But I also felt like I had betrayed my beliefs. It wasn’t a good feeling.

I tried jobs in other industries, but something kept pulling me back to investing and personal finance.

And then it finally hit me.

I knew what I was meant to do, and I set out to form my financial advisory firm, Clark Asset Management, LLC.

Now I get to help people directly, and do it in a way that’s 100% consistent with my beliefs. I get to leverage a career’s worth of skills in financial planning and analysis, problem solving and client communication.

And I get to do my part to help transform an often shady industry into a helping profession.

It’s awesome.

Chris Pollard, CFP®, MBA

About Chris Pollard, CFP®, MBA

I believe we are blessed to live in a country where, with the right counsel and someone walking along side us to help make crucial decisions, we can achieve great lives full of meaning and purpose. By providing comprehensive financial guidance, my goal is to make sure that every client is on a Great Path to living a fulfilled life.

After graduating from West Point and serving in the US Army as an Infantry Officer, I decided my desire for high adventure and international travel had been fulfilled while leading a platoon on a combat tour in Iraq. While pondering what I should be when I grew up (after the Army), I knew I wanted to do two things: work with people and work with numbers. In 2008 I began training to become a personal financial advisor, and I met with my first client in 2009 just after the bottom of the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression.

Since then, I earned an MBA with a Major in Personal Financial Planning, became a Certified Financial Planner ® practitioner and an Enrolled Agent with the Department of Treasury, and have met with over 1,000 individuals to discuss their finances. Through the course of my career I’ve developed an expertise in retirement income planning, and, as an entrepreneur myself, I have a very keen interest in helping fellow entrepreneurs and business owners be successful in their personal and business endeavors.

Erik Kroll, CFP®

About Erik Kroll, CFP®

Hi, my name is Erik Kroll, and this is my story.

I am a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) with a passion for helping people live their ideal lives. I spent five years working in traditional financial planning for a Milwaukee-based firm before I decided to quit my job and start Hilltop Financial Advisors. My time spent working in financial planning and investment management opened my eyes to an interesting phenomenon that exists in the world of financial planning— busy people often spend so much of their time either working or planning for the future, that they get very little time to actually enjoy the present.

This time opened my eyes to the need for a firm that got things in the right order. Hilltop starts by working together to discover why money is important to you and your family. Our single-point-of-contact model ensures that your most important goals and deepest held values are factored into every decision that is made. We act as your representative to reduce the number of people that you have to meet with and free you up to spend time doing the things you love the most.

Before my life as a financial advisor, my life was pretty hectic. I grew up in Alaska and my dream was to become a professional hockey player. After I finished high school, I was recruited and played junior hockey for two years before pursuing my Bachelor’s degree and playing NCAA hockey. While I didn’t make it to the big time in the sport that I love, the time I spent traveling as a semi-professional athlete, gave me an understanding of what it’s like to have a career that demands so much time and leaves very little to spend taking care of the future.

Aside from my life as a financial advisor, I live in a Milwaukee suburb with my lovely wife, daughter and Great Dane. Hockey is still part of my life, and I play in a rec league weekly. My wife and I enjoy going birding and doing anything outside.

That’s enough about me. Interested in working together? Let’s get in touch!

David Zaegel, CFP®, CPA

About David Zaegel, CFP®, CPA

Hi, I’m Dave Zaegel. I started CWOs for Hire to help remove financial stress from clients’ lives. Having been in a high-stress corporate job while also starting a family, I understand the challenges that my clients face on a daily basis because I experienced them first hand. With my accounting background, I also work with many small business owners to help them understand how their business and personal finances connect, and how they can get the most out of both.

I’ve been told many times that how I help clients “just doesn’t exist anywhere else”. While that’s not entirely true (just look at this XY Planning Network!!), I do have a unique skill set between my accounting, tax and financial planning experience, with the added gifts of listening and counseling that I’ve learned from numerous mentors throughout my life.

When I’m not working, I have fun with my wife and three children, and all my friends and other family. As a family we enjoy sports, music and playing card / board games, among many other activities.

Denise Downey, CFP®, MBA

About Denise Downey, CFP®, MBA

Hi, I’m Denise. I have spent my entire 19-year career inside the financial services industry. I’ve worked on the trading floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange, managed back-office support teams, and served as a financial planner for high-net-worth individuals.

In 2015, I decided to leave my full-time job as a high-net-worth financial planner. I loved my career, but I wasn’t comfortable letting my high-pressure work environment pull me away from my family.

I decided to take time off to spend more time with my children and work on my MBA. During this time, our family moved to Spokane, Washington. I fell in love with the great outdoors and became an avid hiker.

I reflected on a different side of the finance world during this time. I realized that many people are completely shut out of the infrastructure that could completely reshape their financial journeys.

In 2016, I returned to financial services to start Financial Trex. My goal is to provide everyday people the top-level advice that is usually reserved for multimillionaires. As a Certified Financial Planner™, I love helping people figure out how to achieve their financial goals.

These days, when I’m not hiking with my kids, I am helping people learn they can achieve financial success on their own terms.

Tim Baker, CFP®

About Tim Baker, CFP®

Your Financial Pharmacist was started in 2015 with a primary mission to help pharmacy professionals on their path towards achieving financial freedom.

Through his experience of paying off $200,000 in debt, Tim Ulbrich, PharmD (YFP CEO) quickly learned that many pharmacists were struggling with mounds of student loan debt and a feeling of being overwhelmed and living paycheck-to-paycheck despite having a six-figure income. This led him to create the Your Financial Pharmacist blog in 2015 to encourage a community of pharmacists and pharmacy students to live a life free of financial stressors.

In 2017, Tim teamed up with Tim Church PharmD (YFP CMO), to co-author Seven Figure Pharmacist: How to Maximize Your Income, Eliminate Debt and Create Wealth and he then eventually joined the team. Around that time, Tim Ulbrich met Tim Baker, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (YFP COO…that’s me!), who had been serving pharmacists by providing fee-only financial planning services. Together they created the Your Financial Pharmacist Podcast in July 2017, which now has over a quarter-million downloads.

In 2019, all three Tims joined forces merging the blog, podcast, book and financial planning firm under the Your Financial Pharmacist brand. The Tims also speak to pharmacy school and organization across the country and YFP is a strategic partner with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).
