Ethan Miller, CFP®

About Ethan Miller, CFP®

Hi, I’m Ethan. I became a financial planner and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional because I saw how too many of my peers were simply unprepared for the complex financial decisions that come with living under capitalism. These decisions can have deep, lasting impacts, and I am passionate about working with clients to help set and reach financial goals without falling in one of many potential pitfalls that we all face every year.

My background as a union organizer shapes a lot of my work as a financial planner. I have a deep understanding of the fundamentally unfair structures that govern our financial lives, and in addition to working with clients to plan for and implement long-term financial plans, I continue to be involved in local and national efforts to create a more just economic system.

My clients typically share my concerns about the systemic problems in our economy, and many spend their working lives to change our economic and political systems for the better. I understand the values and priorities of public service and social justice professionals, and as your guide, I want to help you make the most of your finances and tackle topics such as saving, investing, paying off student loans, retirement planning, saving for your children’s education, buying a home, and much more.

By working together, you can be confident in your financial decisions and trust that you are building a sustainable financial future.

Jim Crider, CFP®

About Jim Crider, CFP®

I’m the founder of Intentional Living FP, a firm created to help families, like my own, achieve early financial independence. Our job is to help you live the life that you want, understanding that your money is simply a resource to help do this. Together, we navigate the decisions, opportunities, and obstacles that you will face so your money is used efficiently and effectively to serve its purpose in your life.

I am highly trained in financial planning and investment management having earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in addition to years of experience as a financial planner at nationally recognized firms. I’ve worked with tens of thousands of families in aligning their financial decisions with their lives. If you’re looking for early financial independence and work optionality I am highly suited to help you and your family. Beyond the countless planning situations I’ve helped others navigate, my family and I are in a similar position. My wife, Kendra, and I are working toward early financial independence so we can have more time to spend with those we love and do more of the things we enjoy. This begins with becoming clear on what is important to you and your family then making intentional decisions to align your actions and your values.

I live in the once-small town of New Braunfels, Texas with my wife, Kendra, and our three sons, Atticus, Asher, and Arlo. When I’m not engaged in a conversation about life and money, I can be found playing dinosaurs or at the park with our kids, playing board games, or in the mountains on an adventure.

Trishul Patel, CFP®, MBA

About Trishul Patel, CFP®, MBA

My name is Trishul Patel, CFP®. I achieved financial independence before 40, and with my 100% virtual advisory business, I get up every day to help others do the same. To get where I am, I prioritized aggressive savings and identified the things that are truly important in my life.

Beyond finance and investing, I am an entrepreneur and problem solver at heart. Creativity and curiosity have always been a part of me. At an early age, I began soldering analog circuits, building computers, and programming simple games. Academically, I also have a few degrees from Cornell University.

I have been investing for almost two decades. Over my professional career, I’ve designed large-scale financial applications for tier-one banks. I likewise managed an exotic options book for a private firm based out of South-East Asia, generating over $750 million in revenue in three years. And I was a Portfolio Manager for a Hedge Fund, managing over $100 million in assets.

Nothing inspires me more than discovering others who are following their dreams. I often feed off the energy of those around me and I enjoy healthy debate and intellectual discourse, especially when it comes to topics that I love and enjoy, such as investing. From my perspective, I simply possess an insatiable desire to learn, understand, and help others.

These days, in addition to helping my clients accomplish their financial and investment goals, I also enjoy blogging, podcasting, biking, and hiking with my wife and daughter.

Carey Morgan, CFP®, ChFC®

About Carey Morgan, CFP®, ChFC®

Hi there. I’m Carey, a partner and financial advisor at Livelihood, LLC. We started our firm because so many of our friends and colleagues were seeking sound and simple financial advice for an affordable price. We specialize in helping people who may not be a good fit for the traditional financial sector – creatives, idealists, non-profit workers, academics, and others who value relationships, experiences, education, and financial security over material wealth. I really enjoy working with people who have dedicated their lives to making their world a better place through service, art, education, and philanthropy. These are all areas I know well. I started my career managing bands and helping musicians sort out their money. The personal finance bug bit me and I joined a huge investment firm to learn that side of things. While the big corporate life wasn’t the best fit for me, I also became really interested in how our everyday spending and investment choices can really impact the community. So, I changed gears to the nonprofit sector, leading a hunger nonprofit, launching a citywide financial counseling program, and directing a private foundation focused on economic empowerment for women. One of the things I get most excited about is the potential for change through ethical investing. In my humble opinion, doing good and doing well are not mutually exclusive.

Jay Zigmont, CFP®, PhD

About Jay Zigmont, CFP®, PhD

My mission in life is to help people to learn how to live their best life and achieve financial freedom.

As many others, I grew up in a home where we were always struggling to make ends meet. My parents worked hard but yet it seemed to always be feast or famine in the house. It wasn’t because we did anything wrong, it was just the only thing we knew to do. If we wanted more, we had to work more. We worked hard for our money, and it was gone just as fast at it came in.

Decades later, I learned how debt can ruin your life, and that there was a way to make your money work for you. Now my wife and I live debt free, have investments, and live a life of financial freedom that is a luxury to most.

Now I’m on a mission to help others.

My wife and I are Childfree. We know the challenges and how things are different. We’ve been BINGO’d more times than we can count. I know you have a different set of values than most, and those need to be respected.

I’ve spent my life learning about how to help people learn better. I have a PhD in Adult Learning from the University of Connecticut. That is just a fancy way of saying that I have worked hard to become an expert in both learning and how to help others learn. I have used those skills to coach both individuals and businesses over the past decade. Depending on what is needed, I’m a life coach, executive coach, financial coach and/or whatever the learner needs.

I am also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. Becoming a CFP® professional is a rigorous process that includes four Es: Education (minimum of a Bachelors Degree), Experience (minimum of 6000 hours), Examination and Ethics. The result is that I have broad training in the areas of Comprehensive Financial Planning: Financial Planning, Insurance Planning & Risk Management, Investment Planning, Tax Planning, Retirement Planning & Employee Benefits, and Estate Planning.

Being a CFP® professional also means I am held to a Fiduciary Standard. The Fiduciary Standard means I MUST put your financial interests ahead of my own. To this end, I am also an Advice-Only and Fee-Only CFP® Professional. Fee-Only means the only way I get paid is from you. I don’t get commissions from anyone or any incentives to sell you products. That means if I make a recommendation it is because I believe it is best for you, not for me. Advice-Only means you pay me for my time and advice, I help you learn, and you manage your own finances (including investing).

Jay Karamourtopoulos, CFP®

About Jay Karamourtopoulos, CFP®

Hi!

My name is Jay. I’m originally from Massachusetts and live in the North End of Boston.

Prior to starting Hereford Financial I worked for an investment management company servicing their private clients, a team of financial planners helping put together financial plans, and for two early stage FinTech companies (one in Boston and one in NYC.)

Like many of my peers, I set out to join the tech industry to find more fulfilling work that aligned with my values and provided me with an opportunity to grow and enhance my career through opportunities not easily found at more established firms. I’ve seen first hand the dedication, passion, time and effort that goes into working for a tech company and the fulfillment that comes from bringing a new product or service into the world. However, it leaves little time to understand your RSUs, ISOs, NSOs, ESPPs and how they fit into and affect your financial plan and goals.

My time in the tech space made me realize how impactful and beneficial equity compensation can be, but also how lack of education can cause confusion and missed opportunities, especially for millennials who haven’t accumulated the necessary assets to work with a traditional financial planner.

I created Hereford Financial to help clients in their 30’s and 40’s create clarity around their equity compensation and use it to plan for a secure future while enjoying their life today. There are no asset minimums, which allows me to work with and help younger clients whose financial situations are just as, if not more complicated than those traditionally served by the industry.

Our comprehensive financial planning process will help you create, grow and keep the wealth you have worked so hard for and allow you to spend more time doing the things that are important to you. We’ll ensure that your money is being leveraged as a tool to do more of what you love.
