About Charlie Horonzy, CFP®, CPA

I founded Focused Up Financial because finances are important, yes, but finances are a means to an end, not the end. I founded this firm to help people ultimately focus on their lives. I want to help people who are passionate about striving for more. Those who want to better themselves not only financially, but in every aspect of their lives.

I traveled a unique path to find my way to the financial planning industry. After graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Accounting Sciences, I entered the public accounting world. After a few years, I took my shot in the corporate accounting world.

Something was missing, though.

I figured out that my passion for helping people was not being fulfilled. So, with bright and starry eyes I made a bold decision to dedicate a year to service work. Was I nervous? You bet. Did I know what was going to happen? Not in the least. Am I glad I did it? No doubt in my mind. It changed the whole direction of my life!

When I returned to Chicago I knew I wanted to integrate my CPA background with helping people, which led me to financial planning. I think about that decision a lot. I feel blessed that I can meet and help so many dynamic and diverse families and individuals.

One of the greatest freedoms in the financial planning industry is being a fee-only planner. As a fee-only firm, we are only compensated by our clients. We do not accept fees for recommending products. Because of this, I take pride in offering recommendations that benefit each client’s individual goals.

In my free time, I enjoy checking out the different neighborhoods of Chicago; biking on the wonderful lakefront trail (which I hardly do enough!); and volunteering at a variety of organizations including, the Financial Planning Association, my church, and LadderUp, a not-for-profit tax assistance program.

I look forward to learning about what drives you, so together we can build on your finances and help you live your best life.

About Charles Ho, CFP®

I was born in Taiwan, but moved to California when I was 3. I grew up in Silicon Valley, but never saw myself forging a career in tech. I eventually pursued vocational (full-time) ministry, and majored in Pastoral Ministry in college. After I graduated though, I felt I needed to enter the “corporate” work field to be able to relate to people and get a first-hand understanding of how the world worked. I started working in the financial services industry, and have been here ever since!

Working in the financial world, especially in San Francisco, was extremely rewarding but also extremely challenging. The part of me which aspired to serve people and minister to people continued to yearn for more. After 10 years in the corporate environment, I decided it was finally time to blaze my own trail, one that enabled me to fully serve my clients and help people who needed financial help.

I started Legacy Builders Financial to help other families not only articulate what they want their legacy to be, but also to hold their hand as they set forth to create it. I am a fee-only registered investment advisor, and my main goal is to be able to help clients achieve their goals and build their legacy, one step at a time. No commissions, no upselling, no fluff!

Outside of work, I am married with three young children. I love exploring the world through their eyes, whether it be camping, swimming, or the world of video games! I live in the small community of Folsom, and dream of one day selling my home and traveling the country in an RV, although nobody else is on board with that… yet. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. I’d love to hear yours!

NOTE: Wealth Mode Financial Planning is not taking any new clients until April 2023.

Hi, I’m Justin. I am the founder of Wealth Mode Financial Planning.

My team and I have a primary focus in helping those with over $100,000 in federal student loans create a plan to minimize loan payments and save taxes – without sacrificing meaningful goals like buying a home, starting a family, or saving for retirement.

Our clients with high student loan debt:
– Average 30 years old
– Graduated in the last 5 years
– $250,000 in average household student loans
– $150,000 to $200,000 in average annual household income
– Want to buy a home in the next 5 years

We’ll help you examine all your options – 10-year standard plan, refinancing, the Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) plans like IBR/PAYE/REPAYE, and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). For married couples both working, you need to look at whether you should file your taxes Married Filing Separately.

From there, we can identify how you can save the most money in paying off your loans while still saving enough money toward other goals. We’ll teach you everything you need to know about setting up the right investment portfolio for you, and which accounts you should be using. Then, we’ll set you up with an easy-to-follow budget and cash flow system that will make it all happen.

Last of all, let’s make sure you’re protected with the proper life insurance, disability insurance, and estate planning documents you need.

Many of our student loan clients have a spouse/partner with equity compensation (ISO’s, non-qualified stock options, RSU’s, ESPP’s, etc.), and we’ve become quite adept at strategic planning for that as well.

We take a heavy emphasis on tax planning and prepare our clients’ tax returns as well if they would like.

Our clients include physicians, dentists, chiropractors, lawyers, and veterinarians – really, any high-student loan debt trade or profession. Our clients live across 25+ U.S. states in all four time zones, and some countries internationally.

I love what I do, and how it helps my clients focus on enjoying their lives and careers instead of worrying about debt or money.

We’re on a temporary pause from taking new clients until April 2023, but if you think we might be a good long-term fit to work together, schedule a free intro call here (www.calendly.com/wealthmode/intro).

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and best friend AnnAlyse, and our 1-year old daughter. We love traveling, attending concerts and musicals, jigsaw puzzling, and going to Disneyland (her influence) or live sporting events (my influence).
