About John Middleton, CFP®, CFA, AIF®, CAIA

I joined Brighton Financial Planning in 2008 and assumed ownership in 2010. I focus my efforts at Brighton on helping our clients achieve their long-term goals and objectives. I strive to accomplish this initiative through the services offered by Brighton. I provide full financial planning, financial coaching, discretionary asset management, asset monitoring, and small business retirement plan advisory services. My clients often are planning for, or are, in retirement and are looking to ensure they have the income and assets necessary to provide the lifestyle they wish to lead. I assist them by forecasting their income and expense, reviewing their insurance coverages and estate documents and analyzing and managing their investment portfolios. I help them identify and address areas of concern, such as liquidity needs, time horizon, risk tolerance, insufficient or missing estate documents or insurance coverage and income/expense mismatches. We then work together to build a plan that resolves these items going forward.

Prior to Brighton, I spent 7 years with the Invesco Quantitative Strategies Group as a Senior Director and Client Portfolio Manager. Within this role, John was responsible for administrative portfolio management duties, portfolio attribution, and on-going client reporting. I also wrote white papers covering such topics as Quantitative vs. Fundamental Enhanced Index Managers, SMID Cap strategies, and Transaction Cost Management. Finally, I was a frequent speaker at conferences, including to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Prior to Invesco, I was as an Officer and Senior Vice President at Mutual of America Capital Management responsible for sales and marketing efforts for the MOACM stable of investment strategies. Prior to Mutual of America, I held several positions with Raymond James & Associates, Inc. and subsidiaries. These positions included Director of Marketing & Client Service for Awad Asset Management, Regional Vice President for Heritage Asset Management, Inc., Director of Corporate New Business Development for the Investment Banking Group and Marketing Associate with the Partnership Investment Banking Group.

I graduated from Rutgers University, with a B.A. in Political Science in 1988, and from the University of Tampa, with an M.B.A in Finance in 1993. Concert Financial Planning is designed for BigLaw and Private Practice attorneys, who feel like their life is going “live” and need to take action to manage their finances.

There are many reasons that people find themselves looking for help, each one specific to their own story and situation. Whatever your reasons may be, I created Concert Financial Planning to help you organize your finances and get on the right path to achieving your goals.

I named the firm “Concert” for two reasons: One, it speaks to my personality and passion outside of work, in that I’ve played music since I was 9 years old. But more importantly, it speaks to the need to have all of the different aspects of your financial life work together “in concert”. I help you create a comprehensive strategy that looks at your cash flow, budget, retirement plan at work, investment accounts, emergency funds, insurance, estate plan (yes, you need one), tax strategy, debts, and so much more. All of these things need to work together in order for any of them to be effective.

While a lot of these things sound boring compared to the excitement (or anxiety) that come along with investing, they are important. The good news is that by working with a professional, you can offload much of the day-to-day work that is required to maintain a financial plan, and instead focus on the things in life that are more important to you. That is why I’m here.

My formal background is this: I grew up in a family of financial professionals (grandfather, dad, and brother). I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Economics, and have been working in the financial services industry ever since (15 years). During that time, I not only obtained the requisite licenses, but earned certifications focused on financial planning (CFP®) and investment analysis (CFA®, CIMA® and CAIA). After working with clients that were financial advisors themselves at large bank brokerages and independent firms across the country, I launched Concert Financial Planning to focus on what I found to be an under-served market: you!

My goal is to help high income individuals and families get on the right track early on so that they can avoid pitfalls and missed opportunities that can add up by the time most people get help, in or near retirement. I hope you’ll reach out so we can discuss what prompted your search for an advisor that identifies with your stage in life and is eager to help you navigate “When Life Goes Live”!

About Susan Danson, CFP®

New Shore Financial was born from my passion to help professional women navigate the challenges associated with financial changes in their lives. Too often, I see women who have remained hands-off or simply have no time when it comes to their family finances. When faced with new choices or challenges, they are not sure which is the best financial decision given their personal circumstances. I am committed to helping women understand and take control of their financial life.

As a young woman, it was important for me to be financially independent. I remember hiring my first CPA to do my taxes and my father saying, “Don’t just file those away. Look them over and get an understanding of what’s going on”. I heeded his advice and learned I actually enjoyed diving into the numbers. I found that I had a strong interest in personal finance. I enjoyed reading about it, learning new strategies and implementing what I learned in my own financial life.

My strengths and interests came together for me in a career path that allows me to help others navigate their own finances in a way they can understand, implement and feel confident about.

Deaton Smith, CFP®, ChFC®

About Deaton Smith, CFP®, ChFC®

I’m Deaton Smith and I am the founder of Thayer Financial, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, a West Point graduate and OEF Veteran. I named Thayer Financial after the founding father of West Point because I envision my company as something bigger than me. It embodies the same values and principles of my time at West Point and in the Army: Duty, Honor, Integrity, and Loyalty. These values are at the very core of everything I do and stand for.

The existing business model is drowning in a sea of “trust me” salespeople all riddled with major conflicts of interest and complicated financial products that pay exorbitant commissions. This is why I created my own firm. My values and beliefs did not line up with any of these major firms and I knew that there had to be a better way to serve my clients.

That’s why I launched a fee-only Registered Investment Adviser that is legally obligated to work as a fiduciary 100% of the time. I don’t accept commissions, referral fees, kickbacks, free vacations, or marketing dollars from insurance companies or investment companies. The only way I get paid is directly from my clients for the services that I provide, which allows my clients to weigh the true cost of the advice they are receiving.

Aaron Agte, CFP®

About Aaron Agte, CFP®

I specialize in helping couples make better financial decisions related to stock options and RSUs. I know we’re saving enough for retirement in 401k’s, but my wife and I still have serious conversations about how to use her RSUs most effectively. Our issues require significant financial planning that firms with AUM minimums wouldn’t be willing to take on.

In my free time, I coach my three kids sports teams, play softball, golf, ski in Incline Village, and work on the NYTimes Crossword puzzle with my wife, Jessica. If you ever see me out and about, I’m the guy wearing something UCLA, Chargers, Padres, or Warriors.
