Kelly Klingaman, CFP®, RLP®

About Kelly Klingaman, CFP®, RLP®

Hi there, I’m Kelly – financial advisor for high-achieving professional women and their families, particularly those women in their early to mid-career working in the finance and tech industries. You’ve got a busy life and you’re juggling a lot. Together we can navigate your high-income years and get clear on how to live a great life using money as a tool.

Prior to founding KKFP, I spent nearly 12 years building a career in the investment management industry at Dimensional Fund Advisors, a large asset manager whose long-term approach to investing relies on financial science instead of attempting to guess where markets are going next. Most recently I was a Regional Director and Vice President on the sales team and Lead Chair of the Women’s Inclusion Network for employees.

I received a degree in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business, and I also hold the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Registered Life Planner® designations.

I’m a born-and-raised Texan and have called Austin my home for 15 years. My husband Matt and I have two young kiddos, plus our “first-born” – a German Shorthaired Pointer. On the weekend you’ll find our crew hiking the trails around town and stopping at Tacodeli for lunch, and in the evening we like to put on a Star Wars movie and make homemade pizza.

As for me, my favorite ways to stay active are playing sand volleyball at Aussie’s and paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake. And while I don’t do the cooking (thanks Hubs!) our pantry is always stocked so I can bake my famous chocolate chip cookies – ask me about the recipe sometime!

My Why:
If you’re a professional woman, I understand how it feels when there are never enough hours in a day, and how overwhelming stress often accompanies the balancing act of our personal and professional lives. On top of that, the path to career success is often fraught with roadblocks that men, on average, never face.

One area in particular that never gets the attention it deserves from successful professional women? Their personal finances. What’s worse is the financial services industry tends to neglect this need because it wasn’t designed with women in mind. A big factor: most financial advisors are men. The CFP Board recently reported that only 23.4% of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals are women, a number that has hovered steadily around this point for over a decade.

My own experiences and observations pushed me to want better outcomes for women in the corporate world, so I built a business to offer customized financial guidance with all of their needs in mind.

This is the time to start optimizing your high-income years and make sure you’re using your financial resources effectively in order to enjoy life now and the journey ahead.

We help women take advantage of the many financial opportunities that the tech industry offers. We want you to build a strong financial foundation so that you have more choice in both your personal and professional lives.

Do you:
• Make more money than you expected to? Are you anxious that you’re not doing the right thing with it?
• Have no one in your life you can talk to about your money?
• Have more money than you need right now, and you don’t want to waste this opportunity?
• Receive company stock but are unsure how to use it?
• Dream about leaving the tech industry, but wonder how you could walk away?
• Live in a high cost-of-living area and dream of buying a home?

Together we can work through it all. Get more clarity on what you want in life. Identify specific tasks you can do to organize, simplify, and strengthen your finances, so you can create that life for yourself.

We also know that your financial future depends as much on your career as it does on traditional financial guidance. In addition to being your financial guide, we want to help you cultivate a broader community of professionals–from recruiters to health professionals to career coaches–to grow your career, despite the stress and frustration that you can so often feel in this industry.

My credentials and education:
• Certified Financial Planner® professional
• Bachelor of Arts in History, Georgetown University

Prior to becoming a financial planner, I worked in the broader financial services industry and higher education for 8 years in Washington, DC and my hometown of Chicago. I have since put down roots in Tacoma (with my adorable one-eyed cat, Cammy), where I spend my free time enjoying all the natural beauty that Washington state has to offer.

If you’d like to get some financial clarity, please set up a FREE consultation. If nothing else, check out Flow’s blog, where we write about issues pertinent to women in tech.

Kent Hickey, CFP®, CPWA

About Kent Hickey, CFP®, CPWA, MBA

As a comprehensive financial adviser with a unique specialization in equity compensation, my mission is to guide you toward achieving your best life. Throughout my career as an adviser, I have seen how impactful the right advice can be.

From an early age, I saw my parents struggle with finances, and I wanted to change that. As a paperboy at age 11, I wanted to know the best way to handle my money and took an interest in financial planning. I also realized that there was an opportunity to help.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Business Logistics and my MBA in Management Science, with Honors, from Penn State. While working in logistics for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, I received my first stock options and restricted shares. This created a strong interest in stock options and I wanted to know more so I could help others with theirs. While working for the railroad, I completed my CFP® professional education.

A few years ago, I realized that people receiving significant equity or stock compensation are often given cookie cutter advice as it relates to their goals. I chose to earn my CPWA® to better serve high net worth individuals, and specifically those with stock compensation. I continue to learn, teach, and lead other advisers to provide higher quality advice to stock compensation recipients.

I decided to start Ubequity because I realized that many people, including experienced financial advisers, don’t fully understand the opportunity for impact provided by stock compensation. I enjoy taking you from seeing stock compensation as an investment, or a mystery, to understanding it, using it as a tool to retire, spend time with family, travel, buy property, support charities, pay off debt, and live your best life.

In my free time, I enjoy going on adventures with my wife, two kids and our dog and cat. (Although more of a dog lover, I have learned to love our cat too.) Over the years I have enjoyed giving my time to a wide range of causes including Boy Scouts, our church, as a Founding Travel Director and licensed coach for youth soccer, and as a fundraising member of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training. Outside of work, I can be found training for triathlons, reading and listening to books, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, cheering on Penn State Football and travelling.

I truly enjoy helping people reach their goals through financial planning and maximizing stock compensation benefits. I look forward to working with you to achieve your best life.

Brandon Amaral, CFP®, EA

About Brandon Amaral, CFP®, EA

I’ve always been passionate about personal finances and financial planning. After graduating from San Diego Staten University with a degree in Financial Planning, I spent some time working for a large Broker-Dealer and then transitioned to a boutique fee-only firm. I became a CFP® and an Enrolled Agent, and began to focus on the nuances of taxes and stock options.

As a first-generation college student, I quickly realized the importance of understanding your finances and saving as early as possible. I’ve spent the last 8 years working in the Financial Services industry and the past 5 years working directly with financial planning clients.

My goal is to provide affordable financial advice to all individuals and families. I want to help people go from confused and overwhelmed to confident and informed.

Jay Karamourtopoulos, CFP®

About Jay Karamourtopoulos, CFP®

My name is Jay. I’m originally from Massachusetts and live in the North End of Boston.

Prior to starting Hereford Financial I worked for an investment management company servicing their private clients, a team of financial planners helping put together financial plans, and for two early stage FinTech companies (one in Boston and one in NYC.)

Like many of my peers, I set out to join the tech industry to find more fulfilling work that aligned with my values and provided me with an opportunity to grow and enhance my career through opportunities not easily found at more established firms. I’ve seen first hand the dedication, passion, time and effort that goes into working for a tech company and the fulfillment that comes from bringing a new product or service into the world. However, it leaves little time to understand your RSUs, ISOs, NSOs, ESPPs and how they fit into and affect your financial plan and goals.

My time in the tech space made me realize how impactful and beneficial equity compensation can be, but also how lack of education can cause confusion and missed opportunities, especially for millennials who haven’t accumulated the necessary assets to work with a traditional financial planner.

I created Hereford Financial to help clients in their 30’s and 40’s create clarity around their equity compensation and use it to plan for a secure future while enjoying their life today. There are no asset minimums, which allows me to work with and help younger clients whose financial situations are just as, if not more complicated than those traditionally served by the industry.

Our comprehensive financial planning process will help you create, grow and keep the wealth you have worked so hard for and allow you to spend more time doing the things that are important to you. We’ll ensure that your money is being leveraged as a tool to do more of what you love.
