About Erik Barnes, CFP®

Smarter Planning. Smarter Portfolios. Smarter Fees.

With almost more than decade of experience in financial planning, I bring my experience and perspective to the table as an extra set of eyes for your finances. With my education, experience, and attentive nature on your side, you can become more confident in your own financial path.

I’m a native Chicagoan and I’ve spent over half of my career working for large wealth management firms. They spent more time talking about how to make the firm more money than how to make clients more money. I wanted to change that.

In 2012, I launched Retirement Portfolio Partners. Now I can devote more time to fewer clients to deliver a superior client experience as a CFP® professional working with my clients on the same side of the table. I help my clients answer questions like:

Can I afford to retire?
Is my portfolio suitable for retirement?
Can I eliminate or at least reduce threats to my retirement?

I’m have a B.A. in Economics from North Central College (Cardinals Rule!) and a graduate of the Executive Financial Planner program at Bryant University. In addition, I hold the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation – exemplifying my commitment to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in the industry.

When I’m not perfecting financial plans, you can find me fishing with my family in Hayward, WI, relaxing on the beach in Indian Rocks Beach, FL, searching for the next best steak burrito, or reading the next great Jack Reacher book

Chris Kimmet, CFP®, MBA

About Chris Kimmet, CFP®, MBA

Hi, My name is Chris Kimmet and I’m a fee-only CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ who loves to help families navigate the intimidating world of saving, investing and planning for their financial future.

I started Steady Climb Financial Planning because I understand the challenges families face when trying to make sound financial decisions. I enjoy breaking down personal finance and investing into easily understandable concepts, and eliminating the intimidation that comes from dealing with 401Ks, IRAs, and HSAs, along with everything else. By working together we can create a solid financial plan that aligns your goals with your values, and provides you with the peace of mind that you are making the best decisions for you and your family.

My sweet spot is working with professionals with kids and helping them navigate the tradeoffs between investing for retirement, saving for their kids education, paying down debt, family vacations and making decisions on investment allocation, equity compensation, career changes, insurance, and more.

Today is the best time to get started building a plan to enable you to meet your goals. Whether that’s buying your dream house, saving the right amount for your child’s education, or preparing to enjoy your retirement, I am here to help.

Matt Gray, CFP®

About Matt Gray, CFP®

My name is Matt Gray and I help working professionals give back to causes they care about while achieving their own financial goals.

I do things a little differently than most advisors in that I do away with the overly formal advisor schtick. There aren’t very many approachable financial planning firms so I decided to create one! No jargon, ties, or expensive offices. We just give good advice in a familiar and simple way.

Most of my clients are working professionals and young families, but I work with clients across many demographics and life stages. During the middle of your career, you often are taking care of parents, raising a family, and have more complexity at work than ever before. We take your financial life off your plate so you can focus on everything else.

My background is in both economics and finance as I earned degrees in both disciplines at Fresno State. I’ve spent my entire career working directly with clients in a financial planning capacity.

About Eric Thomas, CFP®

I learned quickly in my first year working in the financial services field the importance of having a financial plan and a trusted advisor. It was 2008, the beginning of the financial crisis. At that time, I worked almost exclusively with teachers and public school staff as a registered representative and investment advisor. The time demonstrated that even with great public benefits, everyone should be thinking about investing in their future.

In 2011, my wife and I made the decision to move west to Oregon. We had heard that it was a place where you could make a career, but also provided a different environment to enjoy other priorities like being outdoors and access to a great lifestyle, adventure, and community. I started working at a local Portland financial services firm that was home base for around 150 high end independent firms across the country. The firm provided insurance and investment products for the ultra-affluent.

While working my way to senior management, I was able to earn other licenses to further my education and also learn intimately the pros and cons of how different practices operate. Most of all, working with many different small offices affiliated with the firm gave me the ability to understand some of the conflicts in our industry along with how individual clients may not understand how their advisor is getting compensated.

After almost 8 years, I made the decision that working with clients directly was the direction for me. I earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation and started working at a small financial planning firm in Portland. After being given the opportunity to join Clarity Capital Management as a fee-only advisor and partner, I decided to join Ryan Mohr and the firm.

While not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Amanda, and four legged adventure partner, Cori. I enjoy backcountry skiing, long distance trail running, and all forms of cycling. Please don’t be surprised if I show up to a client meeting on two wheels!

Paul Cipriano, CFP®, MBA

About Paul Cipriano, CFP®, MBA

I’m Paul Cipriano, the founder of Cipriano Wealth Management.

I worked on the trading desks at several large global investment banks for over 20 years where I was responsible for advising hedge funds and asset managers on portfolio management, investment strategy and market risk. I combine that experience with my training as a CFP® professional to help middle- and high-income families from working class backgrounds achieve their personal financial goals.

I decided to launch Cipriano Wealth Management as a fee-only, independent registered investment advisor to eliminate the inherent conflicts of interest that investors are often forced to accept when engaging with a financial advisor. We offer comprehensive financial planning under a flat fee structure.
We also combine financial planning with ongoing investment management services and charge fees based on the value of the assets managed (AUM).

We prioritize the development of your unique comprehensive financial plan as the foundation of our relationship. We are not singularly focused on gathering assets and refrain from managing investment portfolios unless we have worked with our clients to develop a strategic plan for their assets.
