About Daniel D. Joss, CFP®, MBA

I am Dan and I’m a seasoned Financial Life Planning professional. As one of less than 125 Life Planners in the United States and less than a dozen in the mid Atlantic area, I not only helps clients achieve their broad financial goals, but tie them to achieving deeper, long term life objectives.

Many clients want to go beyond the numbers of budgets, investments, taxes, and insurance. I help you explore what you wish to accomplish in terms of life experience and lasting legacy. I am skilled at helping clients process questions such as:

“If you had more time or money, what would you do?”

“What do you want to accomplish or attain so you will feel that you’ve had a life well-lived?”

“What moves, touches, or inspires you?”

As you undertake a thoughtful inquiry into their deepest and most enduring values and objectives, your financial priorities and actions begin to connect more closely to your life dreams and wishes. I am trained to provide creative and positive ways to overcome obstacles, great or small, that may hinder you from moving forward with your dreams.

I have over sixteen years of experience in global asset allocation and portfolio design for professionals, including helping individual and corporate clients with retirement plans, cash management, insurance needs analysis, real estate, education funding techniques, and estate planning. Northern Virginia Magazine and the Washingtonian have recognized me several times for being a “Top Financial Planner.”

I speak regularly in various peer forums and professional organizations. I am a member of the Central Virginia Chapter of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). I have also been quoted in various national and local print and online publications. Some of my clients have also volunteered their personal financial stories to national publications like Smart Money and Kiplinger’s.

I earned the degree of Master of Business Administration, with an emphasis in financial planning from Regent University in 1999. I am a graduate of the University of Southern California, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with emphasis in accounting and finance. My Registered Life Planning (RLP®) designation from the Kinder Institute of Life Planning came in 2009. I earned his CFP® designation in 2003.

I am a former commissioned officer of the United States Army and served in several challenging leadership positions. During my military service, I successfully completed two of the Army’s most rigorous training programs, earning the Ranger Tab and the Master Parachutist Badge.

I recently made a life change and now live in Williamsburg, Virginia, with my wife, Robin. We have two sons, Dryden and Deven, and a daughter, Daelyn. I enjoy investing time in my family, traveling, and playing an occasional round of golf. Together, we worship at Walnut Hills Baptist Church.
